On Saturday afternoon I got a call, “are you going to the web awards tonight”, na I thought another awards yawn! Anyway after a bit of cajoling I said I’d go. Boy was I pleased I did!

Firstly there were like no other awards I’ve ever been to. They were well planned, fun, professional, fun and did I mention….fun! I’ve been to lots of awards over the years but this shone as a gem. Pure craic from the moment we arrived (baskets of ‘Lifeline” packs on the desk) to the Styrofoam twitter birds & 404 error messages on our seats. It’s what awards should be, enjoyable but with a real purpose. There was a superb entry to the awards, over 5000 I believe. It was no mean task to whittle this down.

With 2FM’s Rick O’Shea as our host for the awards it was sure to be a giggle! We were warned about not doing a Kayne West (spoilsport!) and Santa O’Shea kept us amused with packets of mad crisps I’ve not had in ages plus cool logo t-shirts. Rick did a great job!

These awards are really important, there are so many wonderful things going on in the webesphere generating from Ireland, it was great to give them all the recognition they deserve.

It was a great opportunity for me to meet so many people I “tweet” with – hi Lee, Dan, Alan, Dena et al! A massive well done to Damien Mulley and the team behind it all, other awards take note – this is what awards shows should be like!
